My Income vs. My Enough
You don’t try to keep up with the Joneses. Do you?
Of course not, nobody does.
And yet, there’s a reason that’s an expression we all know and often use.
Sometimes it’s subtle. Sometimes it’s not.
For example, a friend of mine and her siblings get together each year to have a W-2 derby. (They put their W-2s up against one another and see whose is biggest). That’s not so subtle.
HOW MANY OF US ARE SECRETLY DOING THE SAME THING IN OUR HEADS EVERY TIME WE LOOK AT OUR NEIGHBORS' CARS OR HOUSES?
I don’t have to tell you how futile it is to focus on all of that.
Instead, ask yourself what is “enough”? Not for your neighbor or your sibling. But for you.
Figure that out, and you’ll have the only antidote for keeping up with the Joneses you’ll ever need—not comparing yourself to them in the first place.
